91, of Providence, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, February 5, 2013, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of sixty-four years to Esther A. (Santagata) Yacovone and raised four lucky children. Born in Springfield, MA, he was a son of the late Gaetano and Maria (Colangelo) Yacovone. In 1949, he proudly joined the Providence Police Department and graduated in rank to Captain, retiring in 1981. He then worked eight years as a clerk for the Senate Judiciary Committee in Providence. He was drafted into the US Army Air Force in 1942, serving during WW II in England, Germany, and France. Paul was an avid golfer and loved basketball. He was a devoted family man, very generous and supportive to his family and friends. Paul was Past President of the Hemophilia Association, Holy Name Society, and St. Vincent De Paul Society. He was an active member of the Commissioned Police Officers Association, a Charter member of the FOP, and the 3rd and 4th degree of the Knights of Columbus.
Besides his wife, he is survived by his loving children, Jane M. Yacovone of Foster, Paul L. Yacovone, Jr. of Cranston, Anne M. Carchia and her husband Richard of Narragansett, and Mark E. Yacovone of Oxford, MS. He was the cherished grandfather of Elise A. Yacovone of Foster, and Paul L. Yacovone, III of Cranston. Paul was the brother of Julian Yacovone and his wife Patricia of Springfield, MA, and the late Michael Yacovone and Amelia Abare. He is also survived by several nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Monday at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m.in St. Mary's Church, 1525 Cranston Street, Cranston. Interment with Military Honors will be in Rhode Island Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter.
