Owen C. McDermott, III

70, of Hope, passed away on Thursday, May 30, 2013, at the Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center, Hershey, PA while on vacation with his family. He was the beloved husband of forty-six years to Ann M. (Palmaccio) McDermott. Born in Providence, he was a son of the late Owen C. McDermott, Jr. and Aurora (LaFontaine) McDermott. Owen was the Director of Technology and Information Systems for the Providence Gas Company for fifteen years before retiring in 2000. He was a US Army veteran serving during the Vietnam War as part of the 107th Signal Co. He graduated from LaSalle Academy, Saint Joseph's College in Philadelphia and received his MBA from URI. Owen was a former Scoutmaster of Troup #6, Cranston, serving on numerous committees and was a member of the Jaycees in Philadelphia. Besides his wife, he is survived by his sons, Matthew O. McDermott and his wife Denise of Johnston, Kevin M. McDermott of Warwick, and John P. McDermott and his wife Jessica of Hope. He was the cherished grandfather of Elaina M. McDermott. Owen was the brother of Marie Effros of FL, Kathleen Samson of Johnston, and the late Robert McDermott. Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Thursday, June 6th at 9:45 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at Holy Apostles Church, 800 Pippin Orchard Road, Cranston at 11 a.m. Interment with military honors will be at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS are Wednesday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
