Nicola M. Spirito, 92, of Cranston Street, Cranston, died Saturday, September 1, 2007 at Hebert Nursing Home in Smithfield. He was the beloved husband for 57 years of the late Theresa R. (Manzolillo) Spirito.
Born in Cranston, a son of the late Domenico and Maria (Pezza) Spirito, Sr., he was a lifelong Cranston resident. Mr. Spirito worked for Amtrak for 30 years as a signal station operator, retiring in 1976, and was a WW-II Army Veteran.
He was the fourth oldest member of St. Mary's Feast Society in Cranston. After retiring, he was very active with the Society and received numerous awards and accolades, and in 1993 he was named Honorary President. He was devoted to his loving family.
He was the cherished father of Dr. Nicholas Spirito and his wife Lynne of Groton, MA and Jane S. Buonanno of Cranston; loving grandfather of Christopher E. and Arianna Buonanno, and Michael and Lindsay Spirito; and dear brother of the late Mary DelBonis, Nancy Matrumalo, Julia Buoncervello, Nell McElroy, Lou Avakian and Jean, Carlo and Domenic Spirito, Jr. He is also survived by many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Wednesday at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Cranston St., Cranston at 11:00 a.m.
Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
