Nicholas D. Palma 76, of Belgium Street, Cranston, died Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence. He was the husband of Joyce E. (Murphy) Palma; they were married for forty-eight years. Born in Bristol; he was a son of the late Giuseppe and Michela (Castriotta) Palma. Mr. Palma was a Korean War veteran serving in the US Air Force. He was a graduate of the University of Rhode Island, class of 1957. After graduating, Mr. Palma was employed by the US Army Corps of Engineers in Waltham, MA. He then joined the Rhode Island National Guard serving as a Civil Engineer and Commander until his retirement in 1981. He accepted a position with the State of Rhode Island as a Project Engineer for Highways and then became Airport Chief Engineer before retiring in 1996. Besides his wife he is survived by his children Lisa A. Powrie and her husband John and Nicholas J. Palma, all of Cranston. He was the grandfather of Jillian P. Powrie and Nicole A. Powrie, both of Cranston. Mr. Palma was the brother of the late Ralph, Louis and Angela Palma, Catherine Vieira, Emily Silva, Rose Cruz, Mary Ann Silva and Etta Victoria. Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Monday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 a.m. in St. Mary's Church, Cranston Street, Cranston.
