MICHAEL A. "GABE" MANZI

Michael A. "Gabe" Manzi 99, of Cranston, passed to eternal rest on Monday September 28, 2009 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence. He was the husband of the late Jennie (Sullo) Manzi. Born in Cranston, he was the son of the late Raphael and Francesca (Soprano) Manzi. Mr. Manzi worked as a machinist for Cranston Print Works before he retired, and also as a landscaper. He meticulously maintained and grew the best vegetable garden. Michael was a WW II Army veteran who fought as an expert rifleman in the Normandy Campaign. When wounded on July 4, 1944 he sustained shrapnel wounds to his arms, legs, and back. He was awarded the Purple Heart, the European African Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon, with 1 Service Star, and a Good Conduct Ribbon. Mr. Manzi was a member of the VFW Post 2396, a former member of the City Hall AC Club, and was a communicant of St. Mary's Church, Cranston. Michael was a lifelong NY Yankees and Giants Fan, and he loved to dance. Mr. Manzi is survived by his loving daughter, Linda DiNola and her husband Louis of Cranston. He was the devoted grandpa of Louis DiNola Jr. and his wife Nicole of East Haven, CT, and Jennifer Duarte and her late husband Donald of North Scituate. He was also the cherished Papi of Samantha Faith Duarte, Ava Nicole, and Ella Grace DiNola. Michael was the brother of the late Palma Pennacchini, Mary Paliotta, Jennie DiBiase-DiFonzo, and Pasquale, Frank, Antonio and Louis Manzi. His funeral will be held on Thursday at 10 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME 1278 Park Ave. Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 am in St. Mary's Church Cranston St., Cranston. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Wednesday 5-8 pm.
