Of Cranston, passed away peacefully together, hand in hand, on January 19, 2022. They were happily married for 67 years, a love that did not age, but instead a love for the ages, and raised a wonderful family whom they loved so dearly. They are survived by two loving sons, Joseph M. Bastardi and his wife Jessica of Boalsburg, PA, and Matthew M. Bastardi and his wife Barbara of Skillman, NJ; five cherished grandchildren, Christopher and his wife Megan, Danielle and her fiancé MJ, Colin, Garrett, and Jessie.
Matthew was born in Bristol, the son of the late Giuseppe and Tina (Bisignano) Bastardi. He was the brother of Grace Ruggieri, Nancy Kitchegan, both of Cranston, and the late Joseph Bacarti. Matthew graduated from Texas A and M University with a degree in Meteorology. He was the oldest freshman on the A and M campus and up till that time, the only Rhode Islander to get a degree in meteorology from Texas A and M. To our knowledge that is still the case. He was 35 with his family with him when got it, and always credited mom for him making it, He then worked for the U.S. Government, first as a research meteorologist, then as a computer system analyst and air traffic controller for 30 years before retiring. He was very involved in Somers Point Little League as a coach, umpire and even served as the League Secretary. He was also an avid golfer.
Anna was born in Providence, the daughter of the late Salvatore and Caroline (Magnone) Conforti. She was the sister of Eleanor Kelley of Cranston, and the late Linda Munroe. Anna served as the Board Secretary for the Somers Point Board of Education. Anna was known for her 1,800 photo mural she created in their home of all family photos. It is the Sistine Chapel of the Bastardi family legacy.
Together, Matthew and Anna had a deep love for their family. They cherished the time they spent together and enjoyed taking many trips to California and Italy. They were “snowbirds” spending their winters in Florida.
Ann and Matt - those two gentle hearts - will be missed by family and friends more than words can say here…there is no better legacy.
