Mary K. (Doherty) Sousa 80, of Bonnet Shores, Narragansett, formerly of Cranston died Thursday, January 8, 2009 at Scallop Shell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, Peace Dale. She was the beloved wife of Edward Sousa, to whom she was married for sixty-one years. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late James E. and Anna (Kennington) Doherty. Mrs. Sousa was a graduate of St. Xavier's Academy, Providence, Class of 1946 and a member of its Alumni Association. She was a communicant of St. Thomas More Church. Besides her husband she is survived by her children, Richard E. Sousa and his wife, Terry Su, of Stanford, CA, William J. Sousa and his wife, Karen, of Narragansett, Ellen A. Sandler and her husband, Jeffrey, of Winthrop, MA, Diane Sousa Woodbine and her husband, Frank, of Narragansett and Carol E. Deschenes of High Point, NC. She is also survived by ten grandchildren, Kara Sandler, Sean Sandler, Jesse Deschenes, Kayla Deschenes, Kaitlin Sousa, Meaghan Sousa, Mackenzie Williams, Hayley Woodbine, Olivia Woodbine, and Luke Sousa. Mary was the sister of the late James E. Doherty, Jr. and Elizabeth A. Balutowski. Funeral from the Nardolillo Funeral Home, SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Road, (Rt.1A), Narragansett on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 in St. Veronica's Chapel, Boston Neck Road, Narragansett. VISITING HOURS Monday 4-8 p.m. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Scallop Shell Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 981 Kingstown Road, Peace Dale, RI 02879, or to the charity of one's choice.
