Mary Ann (Bolton) McGwin

July 3, 1930 — January 8, 2014

Mary Ann (Bolton) McGwin

of Narragansett passed away peacefully after a 4
year illness. She was 83.

Mary Ann was born in Cranston and moved to Bonnet Shores in the late 1960s.
She was a graduate of St. Xavier Academy and Salve Regina College ('52).
She was a proud member of Salve's first nursing class, where she excelled as
a clinical student nurse at St. Joseph's Hospital. She was a member of the
RI council of Nursing Students and the National Council of Nursing Students,
as well as the president of the Student Nurses Association. She worked
during her life as a nurse in both public hospitals and private duty. In
2007, she was honored with the Salve Regina University Alumni Achievement
Award, recognizing her outstanding contributions to her profession. When
she moved to Narragansett she became a member of St. Thomas Moore Church,
regularly attending St. Veronica's Chapel, where she was a steady volunteer.
Among her many volunteer activities, she contributed her own flower
arrangements to the church as well as her gardening skills (she established
gardens along the southern side of the Chapel); she also made altar cloths,
the funeral pall, and assisted with making baptismal bibs; and taught ESL
classes to adults. She was humbled by the recognition Msgr. Halloran gave
her at one Sunday Mass in St. Veronica's Chapel when he presented her with a
plaque for her many volunteer hours as the "Flower Lady." She was also a
member of the Little Rhody Thrummers, as well as the Wickford and South
County Art Associations. Mary Ann loved God, her church, her family, art,
international travel, and generally anything of beauty. She thoroughly
enjoyed sewing, painting, rug hooking, and cooking. She was thrilled to see
her grandchildren and eagerly welcomed family and friends.

Mary Ann was the wife of the late James E McGwin, Esq.

She was the daughter of James A. Bolton, Sr. and Eileen A. (McOsker) Bolton.
She was proceeded in death by her sister Natalie F. Bolton and her brother
James A. Bolton, Jr.

She is survived by her brother Rev. Paul J. Bolton Pompano Beach, Fla and her 6
children, as well as 8 grandchildren.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1111 Boston Neck Rd. (Rt. 1A), Narragansett at 8:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 a.m. in St. Veronica Chapel, Narragansett. Burial will take place in St. Mark's Cemetery, Jamestown. Visiting hours are respectfully omitted.
