Mary Lamar Grancher

95, of Narragansett passed away peacefully on February 9, 2025 at her home surrounded by her loving family. 

Born in Norwood, MA, she was a daughter of the late Thomas F. and Ada V. (Dolan) Riley; she graduated from Norwood High School, Mary Brooks School and Boston City Hospital.

She was the executive assistant to the medical director of all Raytheon Plants and also managed doctor’s offices for over twenty-five years. She ended her working career as assistant to the superintendent of facilities at the RI Port Authority in Quonset.

She was passionately involved in local, state and national politics. She was elected Town Meeting member and President of Norwood Young Republicans rising through the ranks to co-chairman of the state. She met Larry Lamar, a career Navy man; married and moved to Quonset Naval Air Station where all three of her sons were born.

Mary had a long history of volunteering for the Red Cross, the Ladd School and the Trudeau Center.

After Larry’s death, she married Walter Grancher of New York City. They were extremely active with the North Kingstown Senior Center. They retained his apartment in NYC and North Kingstown; the best of two worlds and enjoyed traveling.

She leaves her son, Steven Lamar and his wife Mary of Narragansett; four grandchildren, Mia, Carleigh, Katie and Michael; and five great-grandchildren, Hazel, Eleanor, Dylan, Madison and Nora.

She was preceded in death by her two sons, Larry Lamar and Garry Lamar; her husband Walter and sister, Virginia Almquist.

Her funeral service will be held on Friday, February 14, 2025 at 11am in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory – SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Road, (Rt. 1A), Narragansett. Burial will follow in RI Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Exeter. VISITATION Friday from 10-11am.
