Mary "Civitina" (Cardi) Cardi-Longo, 92, entered into Eternal Life on August 1, 2009. She was born in Cranston, RI, on June 10, 1917 to Antonio A. and Maria (Figliozzi) Cardi. Mary was a lifelong resident of Cranston until the final year of her life. She graduated from Cranston High School in 1935 and went on to earn a degree in Pharmacology from the RI College of Pharmacy in 1939. She worked in pharmacies throughout Cranston and was the first woman pharmacist at RI Hospital. Mary is survived by her daughters, Marilyn T. Longo of Warwick, Maria C. Stringer and her husband Howard of Cambridge, England, and Donna Longo DiMichele and her husband Michael of Cranston. She also leaves her grandsons Christopher R. Niebels and his companion Minh Ha Ho; Matthew W. Niebels and his wife Jennifer Kneeland; and her granddaughters Laura A. and Lisa A Stringer. Four great grandchildren also share her legacy: Veronica and Justin Niebels and Zola and Mave Kneeland. She also leaves behind her "granddog" Buster and "grandcat" Peanut. A passionate traveler, Mary traveled throughout the USA, including trips to Alaska, Seattle, Maine, Key West, southern California, and the North Pole thus fulfilling her dream of visiting all four corners of the USA. She made her first of many trips to Italy and the other parts of Europe in 1950. She also visited the Holy Land, where she rejoiced in visiting the places where Jesus had walked. At age 84 she set off to visit South America, on a cruise that included Terra del Fuego / Cape Horn. She loved to drive and went on many local adventures. In her travels, Mary collected beautiful, unique and locally made costume dolls, which she proudly displayed and with which she gave presentations. Her interest in all cultures is reflected in this collection. She was a member of the International Women's' Club. Mary enjoyed opera immensely and was a member of the Opera Guild. Mary loved to cook, preparing wonderful meals for family and friends alike. There was always enough for a meal for any visitor. She delighted in entertaining with many parties and events celebrated with family and friends in the finished basements of her homes on Spenstone Rd. and Eldridge St. Mary was so proud of being a property owner, especially her house on Eldridge St. Mary was the sister of the late Dr. Alphonse B. (d. 1934), Alfred, and Americo Cardi, Angelina Crudale, Caterina Capotosto, and Anna Migliori. Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Wednesday, at 10:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Cranston St., Cranston at 11:00 a.m. Burial will be St. Ann Cemetery Cranston.
