Margaret E. (Ryan) Rysk

94, of Narragansett, RI, died peacefully in her sleep on Monday February 17, 2025. She was the loving wife of Peter Paul Rysk for over 70 years.

Margaret (Peg) was the daughter of the late Thomas and Margaret (Hesketh) Ryan. She is predeceased by her older brothers Thomas & Joseph Ryan. Margaret attended Cranston schools and graduated from St. Xavier’s Academy. When her children were still young, she went to college and graduated from RIC with a degree in art education. She was an art teacher in RI for many years. Margaret pursued her master’s degree at Assumption College while working full time and earned a masters in art education with an art history minor. She traveled to Italy, France, and Greece to see the masterpieces that she had studied and enjoyed sharing this knowledge with her family.

Margaret loved the ocean and enjoyed spending “barefoot summers” in Oakland Beach with her brothers. Her own children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren enjoyed similar summers at Peter and Margaret’s beach house in Narragansett. If Margaret wasn’t at the beach, she was tending to her beautiful gardens.

Margaret is predeceased by her husband, Peter, the love of her life. She leaves four daughters – Sharon Rysk, Laurie Liddell, Holly & her husband David Meyer, Meg & her husband John DeCubellis, Jr, 9 grandchildren – Jason, Nathan, Ryan Meyer and Meghan Amey, Molly Liddell, Erin Williams, the late Katie DeCubellis, Kyle DeCubellis and Eliza Kelly and a whopping 17 great grandchildren.

Peggy was the “glue” that held groups of friends together. She was the organizer of lunch at Twin Oaks and beach parties with “the girls” who were lifelong friends from “The Village” and St. Xavier’s.

Pete & Peg raised their daughters in Warwick, RI where they bought their first home in the mid-fifties and embarked on their version of the American Dream. They faithfully attended St. Catherine’s Church where they volunteered their time on many committees. They enjoyed summer vacations at the beach and winters in Naples, Florida. They made many friends wherever they went. Their retirement years were spent in Narragansett close to the Town Beach with their children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. They could be seen weekly at mass at Christ the King Church at URI. Pete and Peg truly epitomized the adage “Family, Friends and Faith”.

Margaret’s Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated on Monday, February 24th at 10:00 am at Christ the King Church, 180 Old North Rd. Kingston, RI. Visitation Monday 9-10am in the church prior to the mass. Burial will be private. Her family extends a special thank you to all the staff, nurses, and CNA’s at Brightview Commons, Steere House and Hope Hospice for the loving care given to Margaret. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Katie DeCubellis Memorial Foundation
