of Lincoln, matriarch of the Campellone-Cavallaro family, passed away at home after a short illness at 98 years old. To her family and close friends, she was known as Margie. By her children, grandchildren, great grandchildren, and nieces and nephews, she was called Mom, Nani, and Aunt Margie. She will be missed by all.
Margaret was born in Providence in 1922 to Angelina and Giuseppe Cavallaro. The family resided on Broadway in the historic district of Providence. As a girl, Margaret enjoyed spending time by the seaside at her family’s summer house in Potowomut, Rhode Island. It was at Potowomut as a young woman that she began swimming, a pastime that she continued throughout her life well into her eighties. In particular she enjoyed swimming and time on the beaches of Narragansett Bay, Cape Cod, and Rye, NH.
Margaret was a graduate of Providence’s Central High School. She married Ector Campellone in 1949 and together they raised two children, Leah and Robert, in North Providence. They were devout members of Saint Anthony’s Parish there for many years.
Margaret was a feminist for her era and an entrepeneur. At a young age she took on the role of account manager for the family business and worked closely with her husband.
During the early years of their retirement, Margaret and Ector enjoyed traveling and went on trips near and far, from Florida to Europe, as well as cruises in the Mediterranean and Carribean Seas.
Margaret’s life was all about her family and continuing the Italian traditions that were brought to America by her parents. She was a great cook, and she loved hosting large gatherings of family and friends. She was especially known for her Sunday dinners and holiday feasts, where she always served her homemade pasta and Italian delicacies.
Margaret was predeceased by her parents; her husband of 47 years, Ector; her brothers Monsignor Galliano, Vincent, and Armand; her sister Eda Guercia; and grandson Robert Campellone.
She is survived by her daughter Leah and her husband Louis Olerio; her son Robert and his wife Sharon; four grandchildren - Louis Olerio Jr, Lauren Hess, and Kyle and Ariana Campellone; two great-grandchildren – Finnian and Dominic Hess; her brother Alfred; and her godson David Napoli.
As a result of the pandemic, there will be a private funeral. The family hopes to hold a celebration of Margaret’s life in 2021.
