MALCOLM L. DANIELS

MALCOLM L. DANIELS, 81, of Apple House Drive, Cranston, passed away Thursday, January 24, 2008 at RI Hospital in Providence. He was the beloved husband of Joan (Salisbury) Daniels.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Harry and Mary (Hagopian) Daniels.
Mr. Daniels was the Boating Law Administrator for the State of RI for 5 years, before retiring. He was named "All State" in Football in 1943 and graduated from Cranston High School in 1944, and Brown University in 1951. He was a WW-II Army Veteran serving with the 70th Infantry Division, and was severely wounded in the Battle of Wingen in France. He was awarded the Combat Infantry Badge, Bronze Star, Purple Heart, Presidential Unit Citation, European Theatre with Bronze Star, and Victory Medal. He was a life member of DAV and the American Legion, served as Commander of Auburn Post #20 American Legion, and Past President of Auburn Post #20 Home Association. Mr. Daniels was active with the Boy Scouts of America and served on the Executive Board and Advisory Board and was a former member of the "Silver Beaver" Selection Committee, and was former Scoutmaster serving 6 years with Troop 18 Cranston. He was the recipient of the Narragansett Council B.S.A. "Silver Beaver Award", "Captain George Bucklin Medal" and Scouter's Key". He was a Past Master of Warwick Lodge #16 and served as its secretary and Chairman of its Finance Committee, a member of Scottish Rite Valley of Providence, St. John's Commandery #1 Knights Templar, RI Shriner's, Masonic Veterans Assoc., and past president of John Potter Memorial III Building Association.
From 1955-1960, he was Director of Administration, City of Cranston, appointed by Mayor Earl A. Colvin. He was Past Chairman of the City of Cranston Personnel Appeal Board, Past Chairman and Vice-Chairman of the City of Cranston City Planning Commission, a Board Member of the City of Cranston "Hall of Fame", and was Founder, Editor and Publisher of Cranston Mirror, a weekly newspaper. He was a past member of Providence ROTARY Club and Cranston ROTARY Club, member of National Boating Safety Commission and advisory to Commandant U.S. Coast Guard, appointed by U.S. Secretary of Transportation, and was a member of the Coast Guard Auxiliary, past flotilla commander, past division captain, member of 1st U.S.C.G. District Board and Staff for over 20 years, and Editor of District publication "The Nor'easter". Mr. Daniels was inducted into City of Cranston "Hall of Fame" in 1994 and awarded "Outstanding Senior of Cranston" in 1996, and in May of 2003 he was awarded "Past Great Athlete" in football by Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church Sports Committee.
Besides his wife, he was the devoted father of Paula J. Daigneau and Michael G. Dube, both of Cranston, dear brother of John Z. Daniels of Cranston and Cape Coral, FL and Virginia Hanoian of East Providence, loving grandfather of Jennifer Grace and her husband Chris, Jaimie Daigneau and Nathan Dube, loving great-grandfather of Hunter, Cole, Chloe and Noah, and loving uncle of Harry Hanoian of MA, Ronald Hanoian of CA, and John Daniels of FL.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service Monday at 10:00 a.m. in Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, Providence, and may call at the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Sunday 4-8 p.m.
Interment with Military Honors will be in Swan Point Cemetery, Providence.
