Lydia F. (Benevides) Galligan
66, of Narragansett, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on Monday, October 22, 2018 at South County Hospital, Wakefield. She was the beloved wife of the late James W. Galligan. Born in Fall River, MA, she was a daughter of the late Anthony A. Benevides and Norma J. (Souza) Streeper. Lydia was the owner of The Cutting-Edge Beauty Salon of Narragansett for thirty years before retiring in 2018.
She is survived by her loving children, Melissa L. Casey and her husband Mark of West Warwick and Dina M.Monaco and her husband Edward of Lincoln. Lydia was the cherished grandmother of Jason Monaco, Mia Casey and Jack Casey. She was the sister of Vera Watkins of Acampo, CA, William Benevides of Middletown, Norman “Jimmy” Benevides of Cranston, Darryl Streeper of Warwick and the late Anthony, Wayne, Denise, Harry Benevides, and Dean Streeper, She was the sister-in-law of Meri Streeper and aunt of Samantha Streeper, both of Wakefield and numerous other nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday at 9:30 a.m. in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 128 High Street, South Kingstown. Burial will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. VISITING HOURS Friday 4-7 p.m. in the Nardolillo Funeral Home, SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Road, Narragansett.
