Luz A. Rodriguez

Luz Rodriguez, 93, of Cranston, RI, passed away peacefully with her family on Wednesday, June 28, 2023. Born in Santo Domingo, Dominican Republic, she was the daughter of the late Manuel and Lorenza Rodriguez. She was the beloved wife of the late Anselmo Cruz.

Luz was a trailblazing woman of her time with many talents and skills. As an award-winning hair stylist and baker, she inspired beauty and grace in all that she serviced through her salon and intricate custom cake designs. She took pride in her expertly decorated cakes for St. Peter’s Day, weddings, and her grandchildren’s birthdays and special events.

Style, elegance, and poise were synonymous with Luz. Her impeccable taste and fashion sense radiated effortlessly, serving as an inspiration to many. A true Renaissance woman and entrepreneur, she turned her love of fashion into a business by creating and selling beautiful designs as a dressmaker. Her outfits were carefully curated works of art, showcasing her keen eye for detail and innate sense of fashion. A lover of the arts and song, she was also known for her powerful singing voice and impeccable memorization and recitation of poems and prose, which she would bless audiences at family gatherings.

Beyond her talents, Luz was a compassionate and nurturing soul. She possessed an empathetic nature that uplifted those in need. Her kind heart and gentle words provided solace and comfort to family, friends, and her community. She was a pillar of strength, offering guidance and support to those who sought her wisdom. Her infectious laughter and genuine smile lit up every room, creating an atmosphere of love and joy.

As we bid farewell to Luz, we find solace in the memories we shared with her—a tapestry woven with threads of love, creativity, and inspiration. Though she may have departed from our physical realm, her spirit lives on in the hearts of all she touched. She leaves a legacy of perseverance, unwavering faith, and dedicated service to others. May her journey to the next world be filled with the same joy, beauty, and fulfillment that she brought to this one.

Luz was preceded in death by her son, Simon Cruz. She is survived by her children, Juan M. Cruz and Maria Hernandez and her husband, Felipe Hernandez; and her grandchildren and their partners and children, Felipe Hernandez, Jr, Gissele Ornelas, and Maya Luz Hernandez; Jonathan Hernandez; Chantal Hernandez, Zachary Yost, and Clarke Hernandez-Yost; Janel Hernandez; Christian Hernandez and Amanda Paniccia; Juan M. Jr. Cruz, Emilano and Marcos Cruz; Raquel Cruz, and Abril Cordeno; and Kevin Cruz.

Her Funeral Service will be held on Monday, July 3, 2023, at 12:00 pm at the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, RI. Burial will follow in St. Ann’s Cemetery. VISITING HOURS will be from 10:00 am - 12:00 pm.
