Luigi G. Aurecchia 95, of The Village at Waterman Lake, Greenville, a former Johnston resident of eighty-five years, died Thursday, February 12, 2009 at home. He was the husband of Lillian (Williams) Aurecchia. They were married for fifty-two years. Born in Johnston, he was a son of the late Antonio R. and Eufrasia (Iannuccilli) Aurecchia. Mr. Aurecchia was a graduate of Central Evening High School, Providence, class of 1946. He was a member of the graduating class of 1948 at Bryant College. He also held a Rhode Island professional barber license from 1935 to 1948. Mr. Aurecchia was a Supervisory Purchasing Agent and a Budget Analyst for the US Navy Department at Quonset Point. He was employed by the Navy Department for twenty-six years before retiring in 1974. Mr. Aurecchia was also employed by the former Pocasset Worsted Company and the Walter Marshall Spinning Corporation both of Johnston. He was a US Army veteran serving in the European Theatre during WW II as a Staff Sergeant in the Signal Corps. Mr. Aurecchia was a member of the Kelley-Gazzero Post #2812, the National Association of Retired Federal Employees Association and the Society of Manufacturing Engineers. He was a past secretary of the former Pocasset Casino Club, the Pocasset Casino Holding Company and the Thornton Volunteer Fire Company, all of Johnston. Mr. Aurecchia was a lifelong member and a founding member of Saint Rocco's Church, Johnston and also a member of St. Alban Church, North Providence. He was an enthusiastic amateur photographer. Besides his wife he is survived by four brothers, Adolph of Smithfield, Americo of Johnston, Albert of Johnston and Naples, FL, Dean Aurecchia of Arlington, VA, one sister Delmazia Cute of Hollywood, FL. and the late Elissa Okerblom, Anne Morrill-DiRaimo and Walter Aurecchia. Mr. Aurecchia was the uncle of several nieces and nephews. Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 in St. Rocco's Church, Atwood Avenue, Johnston. Burial will be in Highland Memorial Park, Johnston, VISITING HOURS Monday 3-6 p.m. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: The Aurecchia Perpetual Memorial Scholarship Fund, C/O St. Rocco's Church, 927 Atwood Avenue, Johnston, RI 02919.
