Lucio Mancini

84, of Cranston, passed away peacefully on Thursday, March 24, 2022 surrounded by his family after a courageous battle with kidney cancer. He is survived by his wife of 58 years Addolorata (Manzo) Mancini. Born in Itri, Italy, he was the son of the late Alberico and Maria Civita (LaRocca) Mancini. His legacy is carried on by his three sons; Danilo and his wife Serena of Scituate, Alberico and his wife Lisa of Cranston, and Marco and his wife Bianca of Hope; his siblings Concetta Marino of Cranston, Pietro of Itri, Luigi and his wife Caterina of Itri, and Alba Pannozzo of France and brother of the late Salvatore and Padre Francesco Paolo. Lucio was the cherished Nonno of seven grandchildren: Daniel, Sofia, Julia, Marina, Simona, Valentina and Alberico.

Born in Itri, Italy, he grew up during the hardships of World War II. He later pursued his trade as a tailor which took him to Rome and Milan followed by four years in the Italian military. Returning to Itri he met Addolorata, married and started a family. In 1967 he made the courageous decision to leave Itri and immigrate to the United States where he continued his career as a tailor in New York. He soon settled in Rhode Island with the rest of the “Itrani” and raised his family.

He spent the next 40 years tailoring for Leader Uniform, Kennedys, Filenes and Macy’s. He developed relationships with hundreds of customers all to become good friends that visited and sat at his table on a daily basis. His door was always open to everyone, whether a suit needed to be tailored or a friend stopping by to say hello. It always led to a cup of espresso, glass of wine, a shot of brandy, Italian cookies and often a full meal.

He loved gardening, and maintained an award winning garden behind his home in Cranston. His ability to plant, raise and nourish was remarkable. His garden was only one example.

He also enjoyed making wine, foraging for mushrooms, picking dandelions, digging for quahogs and having a freezer full of venison.

A Husband, Father, Nonno, Uncle, Brother and Friend, he touched the lives of many and will be truly missed.

Rest in peace Lucio, you’ve earned it.

His granddaughter is raising funds for kidney cancer research trials that prolonged his life for 3 wonderful years.
