92, another member of the "Greatest Generation", passed away on Thursday, March 15, 2012 at home. She was the wife of the late Benedict "Bennie" T. Placella. She was born in Johnston a daughter of the late Vincenzo and Teresa (Russo) Salzillo.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Ben, who used to say jokingly that "Louise retired when she married me". But in reality for nearly 65 years she was an avid and compassionate wife, mother, mother-in-law-grandma, sister, sister-in-law, aunt, baby sitter and friend. Along this life's journey she ran the family gas station during WWII, cooked meals and made pastries for all who entered her home, was a winemaker, gardener, house painter and so much more. Thank you. You were simply the best.
She is survived by her son and daughter-in-law, Steven M. Placella and Cynthia M. Placella and grandchildren Matthew and Nicole Placella of Johnston and Sandra Rivera of Warwick.
She was the loving sister of Carmella Vacca, Elsie D'Ambra, Albert Salzillo all of Johnston and the late Amelia "Emily "Lombardi, Giovanina "Jennie" Esposito, Amelia, Alberto, Emilino, Carlo and Vincent Salzillo. She was the sister-in-law of Irene Salzillo.
Her funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9:00am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Rocco's Church, Atwood Ave., Johnston at 10:00am. VISITING HOURS Monday 4-8pm. Burial will take place in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Richard Salzillo Memorial Scholarship Fund, 1304 Atwood Ave., Johnston, RI 02919.
