LOUIS P. FILIPPELLI

79, of Johnston, passed away on Friday March 8, 2013 at the Roger Williams Medical Center, Providence. He was the beloved and dedicated husband of Virginia R. (Giannamore) Filippelli for 53 years. Born in Brooklyn, NY, he was the son of the late Carmine and Maria (Conte) Filippelli. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather.

Louis was a Sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps from 1953-1956 during the Korean Conflict. He was a graduate of LaSalle Academy, Class of 1951, and Providence College, Class of 1960. He received a Master's degree from Rhode Island College.

He served as an exemplary educator, principal, and mentor for 32 years in the Providence Schools. Upon his retirement he was honored with the dedication of the Louis P. Filippelli Wing at George J. West Elementary School.

Besides his wife, Louis is survived by his loving children, Louis P. Filippelli and his wife Deana of Warwick, Linda P. Marandola and her husband Thomas of Cranston, Lisa P. Filippelli of Johnston, Leslie P. DiManna and her husband Gian of Smithfield, and Lawrence P. Filippelli and his wife Stephanie of Greenville; his grandchildren Marissa and Julianna Marandola, Jenna Filippelli, Gian and Lucas DiManna, and Emilena and Aria Filippelli; his sister Betty Gordon of Warwick. He was also the brother of the late Michael F. Filippelli.

Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston on Tuesday at 9:45 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Church, Providence. Interment with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS are Monday from 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to the Holy Cross Church Memorial Fund, 18 King Philip St., Providence, R.I. 02909.
