LOUIS J. D'IORIO
LOUIS J. D'IORIO, 94, of Johnston and Narragansett, passed away Tuesday, January 8, 2008 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital in North Providence. He was the beloved husband for 67 years of Irene (DeAngelis) D'Iorio.
Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Marco and Carmella (Papparelli) D'Iorio.
Lou was the owner of the former Rhody Roofing & Siding Company in Providence for 35 years, before retiring.
He was a graduate of the University of RI Class of 1937, with a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering, and attended the graduate program at M.I.T. He was co-captain of the U.R.I. Football Team, and later played football for the Providence Steam Rollers.
Lou was an Army Veteran with the rank of Captain in the Army Corps of Engineers, having earned 6 service medals and later appointed to teach at West Point. He was an avid golfer and was a founder and charter member of the Alpine Country Club. His main passion was his family; "La Famiglia".
Besides his wife, he was the devoted father of Louis J. D'Iorio, Jr., Linda D'Iorio-DeCiccio, Brenda D'Iorio-Holder and Richard William D'Iorio; loving grandfather of Bethany Rowan, Christopher D'Iorio, John Holder, Andrew Holder, Dana Adames and David D'Iorio; loving great-grandfather of four; and dear brother of Ida McCleod, Evelyn Mallozzi, Phyllis D'Iorio and Vincent D'Iorio, and the late Susie Iannaccaro, Isaura Keats, Rose Scoppetta, Anna Petrella, and Joseph, Alfred, Edward, Guerino and Armando D'Iorio.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial Saturday at 9:00 a.m. in Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Rd., Johnston and may call at the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Friday 4-8 p.m.
Burial with Military Honors will be private.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Scallop Shell Nursing Center, 981 Kingstown Rd., Peace Dale, RI 02879, where his loving wife Irene is being cared for.
