94, of Main Street, Coventry, formerly of Cranston, passed away on Sunday March7, 2010 at the Riverview Health Center, Coventry. She was the wife of the late Carlo M. Rainone. Born in Providence, she was a daughter of the late Giovanni and Pasqualina (Vito) Votolato. Mrs. Rainone was a Registered Nurse employed with the Johnston School Department for 35 years retiring in 1976. Lillian served as a 2nd Lieutenant in the Army Nurse Core 1867th SCU Army & Navy General Hospital during WW-II. Mrs. Rainone was a 1938 graduate and past officer of the St. Joseph's School of Nursing and a 1975 graduate of RI College earning a B.S. degree in Education. She was a past officer of the John E. Cooney American Legion Post #84 of Cranston, A member of the John E. Cooney Memorial Association of Cranston, past finance officer of the John E. Cooney American legion Post, in the summer of 1939 she was enrolled in the nursing program at Simmons College of MA, a life member of the St. Joseph's school nursing alumini program, a member of the St. Vincent de Paul society out of St. Mary's Church, advisor for the St. Mary's Church C.Y.O., program chairman of the St. Mark's senior citizens club, a member of The AARP, Den mother for the cub scouts pact 1 of Cranston for 20 years until 1969, and while serving as den mother , she was also the supervisor for eligibility for requirements with the Boy Scouts of America in the merit badges for public health and first aid and she was a volunteer worker with the Cranston retired senior volunteer program day care center out of Rolfe Street, Cranston. Lillian initiated and was the director and head nurse of the Johnston school Nursing Program. She is survived by one son: John C. Rainone and his wife Sharon of Narragansett. Grandmother of Lissa Gamelin and her husband Scott, Shana Simoes and her husband Dan. Great Grandmother of Shaun and Ryan Gamelin ; Daniel and Joseph Simoes. Sister of the late Mary Sullivan, Virginia, Nancy, Vincent, Arthur N. Sr., Anthony and Mario Votolato. Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME 1278 Park Avenue Cranston on Wednesday at 9:30am followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church 1525 Cranston Street Cranston at 10:00am.
