71, of North Kingstown, Rhode Island and Crossville, Tennessee, passed away Monday, December 12, 2023, with his wife, Susan Wright-McKay, at his side.
Born in Cold Spring, NY, he was the only child of the late Frank and Mary (Horgan) McKay.
Andrew graduated from St. Patrick’s High School in Newburgh, NY, Fordham University, and Albany Law School at Union University. In 1974, Andrew joined the Naval Reserve. After passing the NY State Bar, he was commissioned as a Second Lt. in the Naval Judge Advocate General’s (JAG) Corps.
After 20 years of service, Andrew retired to Jamestown and began private law practice. He would always help anyone in need and was well known for his generous pro bono and “no cost work” for those who couldn’t afford an attorney. Andrew served on his church board and became a Stephen Minister, using his gifts to help others through life’s difficulties.
Andrew’s greatest joys in life were his children and grandchildren. He loved coaching his daughters’ sports and sharing with them his love of music and museums. When his grandchildren joined teams, Andrew attended every game and competition as their number one fan. He was a devoted fan of Notre Dame football and proudly wore his “fighting Irish” gear everywhere he went. He loved to travel, sing Irish music, and play golf (even if poorly). Andrew truly believed laughter was the best medicine and had an incredible ability to bring joy to others through his humor.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he leaves 5 daughters, Courteney (Jason) Martin of Kauai, HI, Shannon (Chad) Spencer of Exeter, Morgan McKay of Jamestown, Brittany (Alex) Monstrelis of Exeter and Mary McKay of East Greenwich. He is also survived by his five cherished grandchildren, Colten, Madison, Jackson, Sophia and Julian. He was the former husband of Michele McKay Pickering and the late Sandra McKay.
Visitation will be held from 5-7PM Wednesday, January 3rd at NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory – SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Road (Rt. 1A), Narragansett. Burial with full military honors will be private.
