Katherine Veronica Shea

Katherine Veronica Shea, age 91, best known as “Katy” to her family and friends, passed away on Sunday, June 26, 2022 at Scalabrini Villa, North Kingstown, Rhode Island.

Katy was the youngest child of her late Irish parents William H. and Bridget (Foran) Shea and was the devoted sister of her late siblings, Thomas, Mary, William and James Shea.

Katy grew up and spent most of her life in the Smith Hill section of Providence attending St. Patrick School on Smith Street from which she graduated in 1949. In later years she moved to Centredale Manor in North Providence before residing at Scalabrini Villa for the past 6 years.

For many years, Katy was a switchboard operator at the former Cooper & Sisson Company, and later at the Outlet Company, Hood Co., Swiss Meat Products, and Amica.

“Auntie Katy” is survived by her loving nieces and nephews: Karen (Shea) Feeney (Melvin); Deborah (Shea) Porrazzo (Louis); Virginia (Shea) McCormick (Matthew); Richard Shea (Marianne); Terrence Shea and great-nieces and nephew: Erica and Ashlyn McCormick, Miranda, Fiona, Abigail and Ryan Shea. Katy also leaves behind her dearest childhood and longtime friend Joan (Hull) O’Rourke and her sons, Steven, Ronald, and godson, Peter O’Rourke.

Relatives and friends are invited to attend her Mass of Christian Burial on Friday, July 1st at 10 a.m. at St. Robert Bellarmine Church, 1804 Atwood Avenue, Johnston, RI, followed by burial at St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. Visiting hours and flowers are respectively omitted.
