Josephine M. (Hunt) Salzillo 83, of Johnston, died peacefully on Wednesday at Riverview Healthcare Community in Coventry. She was the beloved wife of Albert A. Salzillo. Born in South Boston, Massachusetts she was the daughter of the late Samuel J. and Claire (McManus) Hunt. During the 1940's, Josephine was a jazz trumpeter who played venues in Boston, Baltimore, and Providence, where she met Albert. Their mutual love of music brought Josephine and Albert together in 1945, and their love of one another and their family has kept them together since. For many years, Josephine was employed by the Johnston School Department, and she retired in 1999. She was active in her union for many years, serving as President for several years. Besides her husband, Josephine leaves a loving sister Claire and her husband William Maytum of Arlington, Massachusetts, a son Albert R. and his wife Karen Salzillo of Greenville, a daughter Patricia A. Salzillo of Narragansett, and granddaughters Keri Salzillo and Kara Salzillo Buckley and her husband Daniel, all of South Boston, Massachusetts. She was the devoted mother of the late Richard D. Salzillo. She will be deeply missed by her family, including sisters-in-law Carmela Vacca, Louise Placella, Elsie D'Ambra and Irene Salzillo and many nieces and nephews. Her funeral will be held on Monday at 9 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave. Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Rocco's Church, 927 Atwood Ave.Johnston, at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
