Joseph A. Saccoccia Sr.

73, of Smithfield passed away on Friday, January 21, 2022, surrounded by his family. Born in Cranston, RI, he was the son of the late Joseph and Adelina (Storti) Saccoccia. He is survived by three children Maria Saccoccia of Cranston, RI; Joseph, Jr. (Tanya Fernandes) of Burrillville, RI; and Michael (Jill) Saccoccia of East Greenwich, RI; his sister Virginia Palombo of West Greenwich, RI; and his longtime companion, Sharon Moylan of Smithfield, RI. He also leaves 3 grandchildren, Luke and Sophia Dunphy and Olivia Saccoccia.

Joe was a graduate of Cranston High School East (‘67) and Bryant College (‘71).  He began his career with Procter and Gamble and ended a very successful career as Regional Sales Manager at Philips Lighting in 1998.

An avid Patriots fan, you could always find him coordinating the 8 course tailgates for every home game, rain or shine.   He was an enthusiastic snowmobiler throughout his adult life.  His passion for animals and their welfare would find him rescuing cats and having fundraising dinners to support various shelters.

Joe was an active member of the Bonnet Shores Beach Club and the Smithfield Elks Lodge.

In lieu of flowers donations can be made in his memory to RISPCA, 186 Amaral Street, Riverside, RI 02915 or St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, 1525 Cranston Street, Cranston, RI 02920 on Friday, February 4th, at 11 a.m.  Burial will be private. Masks are required.
