JOSEPH J. SCUNGIO, III

67, of Coventry and Punta Gorda, Florida, passed away on Sunday, April 3, 2011 at Charlotte Regional Medical Center in Punta Gorda. He was the constant companion of Carole LaFazia. Born in Bristol, he was the son of the late Joseph J. and Rose (Cirillo) Scungio, Jr.

He was the former owner and operator of Scungio's Classic Liquors in Cranston before retiring, and served in the U.S. Navy during the Vietnam era.

Besides his companion, he was the father of Scott J. Scungio, and Shawn P. Scungio, step father of Steven J. LaFazia and R. Scott LaFazia, brother of Pasco "Peachy" Scungio and his wife Lydia and "Papa Joe" to five grandchildren.

His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 8:45 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Rocco Church, 927 Atwood Ave., Johnston at 10:00 a.m. Burial with Military Honors will be at Highland Memorial Park in Johnston.
