81, of Narragansett and Lady Lake, FL passed away peacefully, at home, surrounded by his loving family on February 22, 2022. He was the beloved husband of Ann M. (Garrity) Evans.
Born in Oxford, MA he was a son of the late John H. and Irene E. (Flynn) Evans.
Mr. Evans graduated from Hope High School and received a Bachelor’s degree and Master of Education from Providence College. He was a social studies teacher at Park View Junior High School for twenty-eight years and their baseball coach for many years.
He was a Little League baseball coach in Cranston and Warwick. He also volunteered at the Ronald McDonald House in Fort Myers, Florida.
Baseball was a great passion of Joe's. He got the first ever hit in Cranston's CLCF Little League in 1951. He played for Hope High School and Providence College. He also played for the Cape Cod League's Harwich Mariners where he was selected to the All Star team in 1961. His love of the Boston Red Sox was legendary. He was also a big fan of the Providence College Friars' basketball team.
He was a man of immense faith. His greatest love was his wife and family. He leaves his seven children, Margaret Holmes (John), Janet Goes, Lisa Connell (Paul), Nancy Pope (Ronald), Donna Raboin (Matthew), Julie Negri (John) and Joseph Evans; a brother, Robert Evans (Margaret); eight grandchildren, four great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. He was the brother of the late John, William and James Evans. He was a father figure to many. There was no limit to his love and support which he gave so freely to so many.
His funeral will be held on Friday, March 4, 2022 at 8:45am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory – SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Road, (Rt. 1A), Narragansett followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10am in St. Veronica Chapel, 1035 Boston Neck Road. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS for family and close friends Thursday from 4-7pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association of Rhode Island, 245 Waterman Street, #306, Providence, RI 02906.
