JOSEPH BALASSONE

72, of Johnston, passed away unexpectedly on Friday March 23, 2012 at Rhode Island Hospital, with his loving family by his side. He was the beloved husband of Eleanor (DeFazio) Balassone, and they would have celebrated 49 years of marriage on May 4, 2012.

Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Michael and Florence (Verno) Balassone. He was the cherished father of Joseph Balassone of Cranston, Leah Poland and her husband Brian also of Cranston. He was the adored grandfather of Joelle Harrington, Kyle Poland and Bethany Poland. Joe's wife, children and grandchildren were the center of his life. Traveling with his beloved "EI" and spending time with his family were his greatest pleasures.

He proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the destroyer USS Hale. He worked in the highway construction industry, retiring in 2002. After retirement, he worked part-time as a consultant and estimator on various construction projects.

Besides his wife, children and grandchildren, he is survived by his twin brother, Henry Balassone of Ocala, Florida, and was the brother of the late Michael Balassone Jr. and Anna DuPree. He will also be remembered as a loving uncle and brother- in-law.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday at 8:15 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory 1278 Park Ave. Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at St. Robert Bellarmine Church in Johnston at 9:30 a.m.

Interment will be at St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston.

Visiting hours Tuesday from 4p.m. to 8 p.m.
