John Zuena, Sr. 86, of Midland Dr. Cranston passed away Thursday December 11, 2008 at the Cedar Crest Nursing Centre, Cranston. He was the beloved husband of Mary (Ruggieri) Zuena. They celebrated their 57th wedding anniversary on May 19, 2008. Born in Cranston, he was the son of the late Giovanni and Mariacivita (Matrullo) Zuena. He lived in Cranston for the past 86 years. John worked as a machinist for several years at the Leesona Corporation until retiring in 1982. He also worked part time for several years at Portion Meats in Providence. John was a WWII Army veteran, an active member of the VFW Post #2396 in Cranston where he served as Post Chaplain for 20 years. He was also an active member of the St. Mary's Holy Name Society and volunteered at the Cranston Senior Center. He was the loving and wonderful father of Anthony Zuena and Paulette of Andover, MA, John Zuena, Jr. and Amelia of Cranston, Joseph Zuena and Victoria of Basalt, CO, Maria Perry and Mark Gentsch of Cranston and Lucille Dean and Tim of Warwick. Mr. Zuena was the greatest grandfather of Kevin, Erin, Matthew, Jamie, Madeline, Sarah, Megan, Arianna, Ryan and Juliet. He was also the brother of Filomena Amalfitano of Cranston. John was the brother of late Salvatore, Nicholas, Ernest, Domenic Zuena, Adeline Pirolli, Etta Cardillo and Josephine Fabrizio. His funeral will be held on Monday at 9 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME 1278 Park Ave. Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Mary's Church Cranston St. Cranston. Burial with Military Honors will be held in St. Ann's Cemetery Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Sunday 2-7 pm.
