JOHN E. STENPEK, 89, formerly of 43 Humes St, Providence, died Monday morning at West View Health Care Center in West Warwick after his health declined over the last 3 months. He is survived by his wife of over 50 years, Wanda (Janusz) Stenpek. He and Wanda were extremely devoted to each other, and John looked out for her even during his final days. Born in Goodyear, CT, he was the son of the late Walter and Aniela (Mokszycka) Stenpek, and brother of the late Stasia (Stenpek) Peterson. On several occasions he assisted in triage and transport of the wounded. He landed in Normandy and advanced to the heart of Germany as part of General Eisenhower's command. His patriotism led him to become a passionate follower of politics throughout his life. For decades, he drove a cab for Airport Taxi, and regaled friends and family with stories of the noteworthy passengers he met, including Jackie Kennedy Onassis and Senator Edward Kennedy. In addition to his wife, he leaves behind his brother in law, Ralph Peterson, his nephew, Glenn Peterson, his nieces, Lynn Peterson, Jan Peterson Rothstein, and Lee Kiernan, six great nieces and nephews, several cousins, his loyal friend Tim Reilly, and many dear staff members from West View, his home for the last five years.
