John G. Solitro, Sr. 58, of Lancelotta St. West Warwick, passed away Wednesday August 26, 2009 in Kent Hospital in Warwick. He was the husband of Helen (Duffy) Solitro. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Pasquale Solitro and Anne Marie Slattery and the step-son of Cecile Solitro. John was a Lt. for the RI Department of Corrections where he worked as a Correction Supervisor for 15 years before an injury forced him to retire.He was the captain of Central High School Football Team as a senior graduating in 1970, coached baseball for Federal Hill Little League, former President of Cranston Western Little League where he also was a coach. He coached CLCF Football, and LaSalle Academy Freshman Football. John loved golfing, fishing and was an avid Red Sox and New York Giants Fan. Besides his wife and step-mother he is survived by his sons; John G. Solitro Jr. and his wife April and George Solitro. He was the grandfather of Nathaniel J. Solitro and brother of Michael Solitro, Patricia Ann Solitro, Lisa Macedonio and Lawrence J. Solitro. His funeral will be held on Saturday at 9 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME 1278 Park Ave. Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Ann"s Church Cranston at 10 a.m. Burial will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.Visiting Hours Friday 4-8 p.m. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to: St. Ann's Church 1493 Cranston St. Cranston, RI 02920.
