87, of Cranston passed away on Saturday December 12, 2009 at Cedar Crest Nursing and Rehabilitation Centre, Cranston. He was the beloved husband of Marie E. (Teigue) Renza. They were married 62 years. He was born in Providence, a son of the late Nicola and Carmela (Coccia) Renza. John was a 1943 graduate of Bryant University, and was a Professor of Accounting and Mathematics, and awarded the Key to the University in 2008. He was the Vice President of Finance at Salve Regina University, Business Administrator for the Cranston School Department, Director of RI Department of Labor and Training, and was a WW II Army veteran. John was a member of Cranston Council, Knights of Columbus , Cranston Housing Authority, Cranston Lions Club, Phi Sigma Nu and Sigma Lambda Pi and was the Fraternity Advisor, Loyal Guard of Bryant University, RI Association of School of Business Officials, National Association of School Business Officials, American Association of School Administrators, Bishop's Lay Committee on Scouting, RI Mental Health Association Director, Advisor to local and regional CYO , and was the recipient of the CYO Man of the Year award. He was a Board member, lector and served on the Finance Committee at St. Mary's Church in Cranston, Greater Providence Retired Teachers' Association , and Treasurer of RI Retired Teachers' Association. Besides his wife he is survived by his loving children, John S. Renza, Jr. and his wife Marianne of Hope, Jane M. Renza and Gerald T. Renza both of Cranston. He was also the cherished grandfather of John S. Renza, III and his wife Lauren, Gregory J. Renza and his wife Lauren, and Lauren J. O'Connell, and was the great grandfather of John S. Renza, IV and Grace E. Renza. John was the brother of the late I.V. "Chick", Mario, and Lena Renza. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME 1278 Park Ave. Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in St. Mary's Church Cranston St. Cranston. Burial will be in St. Ann's Cemetery Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Monday 5-8pm.
