John (Jackie) Montaquila 72, was reunited with his wife on June 3, 2011. He was the son of the late John and Rose (Scorpio ) Montaquila. He is survived by his son John Montaquila (Anne Marie), of Wilmette, IL and daughter Christine Montaquila (Brad Williams), of Wilmette, IL as well as his sister Paula Singleton (Ed Singleton) of Warwick, R.I. John grew up on Shirley Boulevard in Cranston and graduated in 1957 from Cranston High School. He was an avid athlete, discovering his passion for golf as a teenager, as well as playing varsity baseball, basketball and football in high school. In 1961 he graduated from Bethany College in West Virginia where in addition to playing golf and football, was on the diving team. At age 24, while on leave from the army, he met his beloved wife Beverly (Cimino) on a blind date, and they were married for 43 years. He worked with his father in the development of the Dean Estates neighborhood in Cranston where he and his wife lived and raised their children. John was a member of Metacomet Country Club for 25 years and could often be found in the Men's Lounge telling jokes. Before that, he was a 20-year member of Alpine Country Club, where he was a nine time Club Champion. He was a talented artist and spent years taking classes at RISD while painting portraits and landscapes. Many of his paintings can be seen in the homes of family and friends. He loved Italy and he and his wife took extensive trips there in their later years. His warm, welcoming personality, generous spirit and love of laughter will be missed. John leaves behind 7 grandchildren, Matthew, Julieanne, Daniel and Cate Montaquila, Luca, Francesca and Leo Williams, his mother-in-law Rose Cimino, sister-in-law Deborah Cimino and brother-in-law Joseph Cimino (Beth) of Boston, as well as his nephews and nieces. His funeral will be held on Tuesday at 9 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory 1278 Park Ave., Cranston followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10 am in Immaculate Conception Church, Oaklawn Ave., Cranston. Burial will take place in St. Ann's Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS: Tuesday 8:00 - 9:00 am.
