JOHN H. HAROOTUNIAN, 84, of Whitewood Dr., Cranston, passed away Monday, February 18, 2008 at RI Hospital in Providence. He was the beloved husband for 59 years of Doris M. (Kardashian) Harootunian.
Born in Worcester, MA, a son of the late Harry and Aghavni (Ansourian) Harootunian, he resided in Cranston since 1959. Mr. Harootunian was a graduate of Boston University. He volunteered as a cadet with the 14th Air Force serving as First Lt. and navigator with the Flying Tigers in China during WW-II, was awarded two Distinguished Flying Crosses and other medals.
He was employed as Deputy Market Administrator with the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Federal Milk Market Administration. He later became Chief Auditor of New England, retiring in 1987.
Besides his wife, he was the devoted father of John P. Harootunian and his wife Sharon of Springfield, VA and Denis C. Harootunian of Falls Church, VA; loving grandfather of John J., Michael and Lisa Harootunian and dear brother of Florence Atanian of Worcester.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Funeral Service Friday at 11:00 a.m. in Sts. Sahag & Mesrob Armenian Apostolic Church, Providence, followed by interment with Military Honors at RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
