John R. Greenhalgh, Jr.

John R. Greenhalgh, Jr. (Ret. CFD) 93 of Cranston, passed away on Monday September 2, 2024, with his family by his side. Born in Providence, he was the son of the late Elizabeth (Thurber) and John R. Greenhalgh, Sr. He was the beloved husband of the late Barbara E. (Saccoccio) Greenhalgh, and the devoted father of the late Susan Greenhalgh.

After graduating High School, he went on to proudly serve his county in the U.S Marine Corps, during the Korean Conflict. John retired as a Lieutenant after 27 years, from the Cranston Fire Department, he then went on to work for the State Fire Marshal, for 17 years. He was the first certified rescue scuba diver for the City of Cranston. While he wasn’t at work, he could be found working at one of his various property’s building houses. He was an avid golfer, that also enjoyed collecting firearms and coins. He was a man that didn’t like the attention focused on him, however he enjoyed a good Manhattan.

He is survived by his son John R. Greenhalgh, III and his wife Joy Link. He was the grandfather of Joshua Link, Erica Link, and Courtney Link. He also leaves his six great grandchildren. He was the brother of Helen Murray and the late Janet Greenhalgh-Every.

His funeral will leave at 9:15 am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Tuesday September 10, 2024, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 am St. Mary’s Church, 1525 Church St., Cranston. Burial with military honors, will be held in St. Ann Cemetery. VISTING HOURS will be held on Monday from 5:00 – 7:00pm.  Kindly omit flowers.
