JOHN M. CAPOTOSTO

88, passed away on April 23, 2023 at Philip Hulitar Hospice Center, Providence.

John was the beloved husband of Irene (Obernesser) Capotosto, father of Donna (Capotosto) Pobiner and Diane Capotosto, grandfather to his precious grandson, Eric Pobiner and father-in-law of Paul Pobiner.

Born in Cranston, he was the son of the late Paul and Mary (Maggiacomo) Capotosto, brother of Etta (Capotosto) Terenzi and the late Sandino Capotosto, uncle to several nieces and nephews.

He served in the U.S. Army in his 20’s during which time he met his future bride, Irene.  They were married in 1958 and would have celebrated their 65th wedding Anniversary in June this year.

John started his career with Star Market as a grocery clerk stocking shelves.  Over the years, he advanced to managing supermarkets across R.I. for the Jewel Corp.  His skills in Operations, Planning and Training positioned him for opening several new supermarkets and remodeling existing ones in the region.  He received an Associate’s degree in Business Management from BryantCollege in R.I.

John had a witty, natural and down-to-earth sense of humor.  He had a kind, respectful, easy-going and patient way about him, except when his Yankees were losing!  He loved his monthly luncheon get togethers with the guys from Star Market.

His visitation will be held on Thursday morning, April 27th from 10:00AM to 11:00AM at Nardolillo Funeral Home, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston, R.I, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 12 Noon at St. Mary’s Church, 1525 Cranston Street, in Cranston.  Gravesite Burial Services will take place at Swan Point Cemetery, 585 Blackstone Boulevard, Providence, RI.

In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made to St. Jude or Wounded Warriors.
