54, of Johnston, passed away on Saturday, October 29, 2011 at home. Born in Providence, he was a son of Barbara A. (Rogers) Bannon of Johnston and the late John Cabral. He was the step-son of William F. Bannon of Johnston. John was a correctional officer for twenty-nine years for the State of RI before his retirement. He was an avid fisherman, enjoyed animals and spending time in the outdoors. John was an accomplished martial artist and held numerous ranks including a 5th degree black belt. He was well known and respected and competed for many years, winning numerous championships.
Besides his mother and step-father he is survived by several aunts, uncles, and numerous cousins. John was the best friend of Joseph Cardin of Lincoln. He was the brother of the late Anthony Cabral.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 11:00 a.m. in St. Brigid Church, 1231 Plainfield Street, Johnston. Interment will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. VISITING HOURS Thursday 4-8 p.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston.
