93, formerly of Bishop Hill Road,Johnston, RI died peacefully May 6,2024 in Mashpee, Massachusetts. She was the beloved wife of the late Joseph Procaccini for 47 years. Born in Bridgeport, Connecticut on September 27, 1930, eldest daughter of the late Constance (Alishauskas) and John Sterbitis and sister of the late Delores Sterbach Boehm. Joan lived in Johnston since 1951, and retired with her daughter, Joan Votta and her husband Steve to Mashpee, Massachusetts in 2017, and was 93 when she passed away.
Mrs. Proc,as she was affectionately known, was the volunteer librarian at St. Rocco’s School in Johnston for over 45 years and touched the lives of hundreds of students. She was a communicant of St. Rocco’s Church since 1951 where she served as a Lector and Minister of the Eucharist.
Joan, “Beema”, was the devoted mother of Judith A. Parks and her husband David of Pembroke, MA, Joan F. Votta and her husband Steve of Mashpee, MA, Jean M. Fox and her husband John of Richmond, RI, Joseph F. Procaccini and his wife Patricia of Johnston, RI and Janice E. Flippo and her husband Wade of Richmond, RI. Joan was the beloved and cherished grandmother of Andrew Parks, Timothy Parks, Ayla Fox, Naysh Fox, Anya Fox, Francesca Mahoney, Anastasia Spangenberger, and Gabryella Procaccini and 6 great grandchildren, Charlotte, Graham, Whitney, Jordan, Mack, and Willa. Joan is also survived by her sisters in law, Constance Procaccini Ardente, Etta Procaccini Izzi and niece Jennifer Izzi Bennett and her husband Mark Bennett. She will be loved and missed by all of them.
Joan has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations be made to the St. Rocco’s School library.
Her visitation will be held on Saturday morning from 10am-11am in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston followed by a service at 11am. Her burial will take place in St. Ann’s Cemetery, Cranston.
