Joan Frances (Williams) Homan

It is with profound sadness that the family of Joan Frances Homan announces her passing into eternal life on February 28, 2022 at the age of 87.

Born in Rome, New York on August 20, 1934, she was the daughter of the late William “Buster” Williams and Jennie Lombino Williams. Joan was a 1952 graduate of Rome Free Academy. She was married for 39 years to the love of her life, the late Captain Clifford Francis Homan from Athens, Tennessee. With Clifford being a Captain in the Navy, they were stationed all over the country from San Diego, California to Newport, Rhode Island. She had a true appreciation for traveling the world, visiting numerous countries.

Joan is survived by her children FoyAnn Plohr of Bristol, Rhode Island, Craig Homan of Tiverton, Rhode Island, Matthew Homan of Charlotte, North Carolina; siblings Marie Corzine of Illinois and Frances Millette of Maine; 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren; nieces and nephews.  She was predeceased by her brother, William Williams Jr.

Joan was a resident of Bristol, Rhode Island for the last 17 years where she volunteered on the Newport Naval Base and was a parishioner of Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish.  Prior to that, Joan lived in Oakton, Virginia for 25 years.  During that time, she started her own interior design business.

Joan had a gift for talking with family, friends, and colleagues on many subjects. She read the Wall Street Journal every day and she never stopped educating herself. Having a passion for art, she enjoyed painting. She was a wonderful friend to many and lived life to the fullest.

Her greatest accomplishment was the time and effort she devoted to raising and caring for her three children and their families.

Her burial will be held in Arlington National Cemetery in Arlington, Virginia alongside her husband. The date of the services is to be announced.

In lieu of flowers, the family wishes memorial contributions be made to the Navy Marines Corps Relief Society, 690 Peary Street, Newport, RI 02841 or Our Lady of Mt. Carmel Parish, 141 State Street, Bristol, RI 02809.
