A long-time resident of Cranston, Joan passed away in Providence on June 14th. She went to be with the Lord and those that preceded her in death, beloved son, Thomas A. Gregorio and husband Antonio Calabro. She is survived by her loving daughters Janice Oliver and Deborah DeSimone and loving son, Anthony Calabro; Mother-in-law to Segio DeSimone and Denise Calabro; Grandmother to Tracey Oliver Richard, Saranam Shelley Olivier, Thomas DiGregorio, Daniela McClanaghan, Sergio DeSimone, Amanda Mitchell, Zachary and Alanna Calabro. Great-Grandmother to Racheal Goudeau, Jon, Michael, Renee, Nicole and Victoria Richard; Ariana and Alexandra De Gregorio; Ela, Gia and Rob McClanaghan; Steven Lafazia and Mariah Fiore. She was great-great grandmother to Zane, Jaxson, Carter and Bridget.
Born in England, Joan was a war bride who became a proud,naturalized citizen of the United States and a dedicated Registered Nurse. She is survived by her sister, Joy Sanderson,who still resides in Leicestershire, England. After retiring from Miriam Hospital and Briarcliff Nursing Facility, she relocated to Kissimmee, Florida and became a volunteer for the Save the Children Foundation, the Golden Hookers, and the Red Hat Society. She also guided scores of family trips through Disney World and SeaWorld, where she worked part-time well into her eighties.
We, her loving family, will greatly miss our funny, fearless and indomitable matriarch.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Mary's Church, Cranston Street, Cranston at 11:00 a.m. on Friday. Burial will be held in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
