Jane Marie (Marcotrigiano) Sczerbinski, 81, of Cranston, passed away on August 15, 2024 at home surrounded by her loving family after a courageous battle with cancer. She was the beloved wife of Joseph V. Sczerbinski Sr. for 62 years. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Gaetano and Mary (Monti) Marcotrigiano.
In addition to her husband, Jane is survived by her children Joseph Sczerbinski Jr. and his wife Carolyn, Lisa Sczerbinski, and Dayna Bianco, all of Cranston; and Kristen Huamani and her husband Mark, of Gladstone, NJ. Jane was a cherished grandmother to Nicholas, Kara, David and Lila Sczerbinski, Michael Bianco, and Haley, Kaitlyn and Dylan Huamani. She is also survived by her sister Ann DiLanna (Frank) of Cranston, many nieces, nephews, cousins and a special group of lifelong friends. Jane was predeceased by her young son, David Sczerbinski.
Jane grew up in Providence with a large, extended family and attended Holy Ghost School and St. Xavier High School. In 1962 she married her high school sweetheart Joseph and moved to Cranston to start a family.
Jane delighted in being a mother and later a grandmother and devoted her life to raising and caring for her family. She worked alongside her husband and later her son in the family business, The Window Shoppee in Warwick, for 50 years. She never missed her children’s hockey games, dance recitals and school events, but she loved nothing more than having family and friends gathered around her kitchen and dining room tables for birthdays, holidays, Sunday dinners, and neighborhood gatherings including an annual Fourth of July clambake that she and Joe hosted for more than 30 years.
As her family grew, she was blessed with eight grandchildren and delighted in watching them grow, celebrating every milestone along the way. She never turned down a request by her grandkids or her husband to make her famous pancakes, and her blueberry pie was only outdone by her apple pie. She liked to shop, loved flowers, enjoyed traveling and relished in creating traditions and special memories with her family and friends that will be passed down for generations.
Jane was a longtime parishioner of St. Rocco’s Church in Johnston, and later, Holy Apostles Church in Cranston, where a service will be held on Thursday.
Visitation will be held on Wednesday August 21st from 6:00 - 9:00 p.m. at the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston. Family and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated on Thursday August 22nd at 10:00 am at Holy Apostles, 800 Pippin Orchard Road, Cranston. Burial will follow in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
Jane was a dedicated supporter of the Jimmy Fund and St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. In lieu of flowers, please consider donations in her name to either organization at stjude.org/memorial or jimmyfund.org
