97, of Cumberland, RI passed away on May 10, 2021 at Saint Antoine Residence. He was the loving husband of the late Catherine “Kay” A. (Moretti) Saccocia. They were together for 46 years.
Born in Bridgewater, MA, Jim was the son of the late Angelo and Elvira (Canero) Saccocia.
He was a proud graduate of Bridgewater High School Class of 1942 and Burdett Business College in Boston, MA.
Jim was a proud veteran of the US Army Air Force in World War ll and served in Italy and North Africa with the US Mediterranean Air Transport Command. He was honorably discharged with the rank of Sergeant.
After Military Service and college, Jim worked in the automobile business in Bridgewater, MA, as a Partner and General Manager of the Griffin General Motors Buick and Pontiac dealership, and later at Vicino Buick Pontiac GMC in Mansfield MA, before retiring. He was associated with GM franchises for over 50 years before retiring in 1990.
Jim was one of the original founders of the Bridgewater Veterans Organization in 1946 and was a member of several National Senior Citizen’s Organizations. A sports enthusiast, he was a passionate follower of the Red Sox, Patriots, and Bruins.
Jim was a resident of Cranston, RI from 1955 until moving to Cumberland, RI, in 2001.
Jim enjoyed retirement by spending quality time with his family and looked forward to all family gatherings at holidays and special occasions. He was a great storyteller and entertained his family reminiscing about his life experiences. Jim also became a computer enthusiast, and was an avid bowler in leagues from Cumberland, RI and North Attleboro, MA.
Jim is survived by his daughter Kathy Ann Hopkinson and her husband Dana D. Hopkinson of Cumberland, RI, his grandson Darren James Hopkinson of Boston, MA, and his sister Catherine Browne of Marion, MA. He was also the brother of the late Evelyn Dee, Albert Saccocia, Janette Saccocia, and the half-brother of the late Francis Gardner, Rosie Savage, Sam Caporotta, Arthur (Torrey) Saccocia, Alice DiNanno, Nora Boissonneau, and John Saccocia.
Relatives and friends are invited to attend his Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, May 17th, at 10:00 a.m. at St Mary’s Church, 1525 Cranston Street, Cranston, RI. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 16th, from 4:00-7:00 p.m. in the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave, Cranston, RI. Burial will be held in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston, RI.
