85, a former chief of police for the town of Jamestown, passed away peacefully at his home Monday, March 25, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. He was the beloved husband of Ann Marie (Gracik) Pemantell.
A lifelong resident of Jamestown, he was a son of the late James E. and Mary (O’Donnell) Pemantell.
Jim graduated from Rogers High School where he excelled on the field playing baseball, sparking a passion for sports.
A US Navy Veteran, he served from 1956 to 1959 on the flight deck of the USS Wasp CVS-18 antisubmarine aircraft carrier.
Chief Pemantell served on the Jamestown Police Department from 1963 to 1992, and after retiring worked for the US Marshal Service in Providence.
An avid runner, Jim enjoyed running marathons to raise money for charities such as the Leukemia Society and the Jimmy Fund. He participated in over 40 marathons across the country and one in Ireland.
He enjoyed playing the mandolin, photography, and kayaking around the island.
Besides his wife, he leaves two children, Mary Elizabeth Titmas and her husband John and James L. Pemantell and his wife Jennifer; a brother Joseph Pemantell; and four grandchildren, Brigitte Desvaux, Marcel Desvaux, August Pemantell and Lucien Pemantell. He was the brother of the late Peter, Charles and Mary Pemantell.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, April 2, 2024 at 9:45am from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory – SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Road, Narragansett, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11am in St. Mark Church, 60 Narragansett Avenue, Jamestown. Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Mark Cemetery. VISITING HOURS Monday from 4-8pm. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, Northeast (New England), P.O. Box 22470, New York, NY 10087-2470 or to The Jimmy Fund, 10 Brookline Place West, 6th Floor, Brookline, MA 02445-7226.
