J. A. RICHARD COL. US ARMY RET. GUERTIN

80. of Narragansett, died Sunday, May 30, 2010 at South County Hospital, Wakefield. He was the beloved husband of fifty-four years of Dr. Mary L. (Roque) Guertin. Born in Cincinnati, Ohio he was a son of the late Dr. Diomede and Patricia (O'Brien) Guertin. He was a US Army thirty year veteran serving in Korea and Vietnam. Col. Guertin served with the Senior Executive Service Department of the Navy for education. He was Dean of ICAF in Washington, DC and served as a professor at the Naval War College, Newport. Col. Guertin served as Cmdr. of the 10th ADA Group in Germany. He was a professor at The George Washington University where he received his doctorate. Besides his wife, he is survived by his children, Michael R. Guertin, US Navy serving in Bahrain and his wife Mitzi, Barbara M.H. Mitchell of Westford, MA, and Richard J. Guertin and his wife Angela of Miramar, FL He was the grandfather of eight and the great-grandfather of four. Richard was the brother of Gerald A. Guertin of Pensacola, FL, and Yvonne Christopher of St. Louis, MO. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Friday at 10:00 a.m. in St Veronica's Chapel, Boston Neck Road, Narragansett and may call at the Nardolillo Funeral Home, SOUTH COUNTY CHAPEL, 1111 Boston Neck Road, (Rt.1A) Narragansett on Thursday 4-8 p.m. Burial with Military Honors will be in Rhode Island Veterans Cemetery, Exeter. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Veronica's Chapel, C/O St. Thomas More Church, 53 Rockland Street, Narragansett, RI 02882.
