HENRY PAPA, 91, formerly of Ford St., Providence, died Saturday, September 15, 2007 at RI Veteran's Home in Bristol.
Born in Cranston, the devoted son of the late Andrea and Maria (Moretti) Papa, he moved to Providence in 1939 and to Bristol in 2005.
Mr. Papa worked for the U.S. Government and was supervisor of carpentry at the former Quonset Point Naval Air Station in North Kingstown for 26 years, before retiring.
He was a WW-II Army veteran and served with the 36th Engineer Combat Group participating in Algiers and Fedala, North Africa; Lancata, Sicily; Salerno and Anzio, Italy; and Cavaliere, Southern France, and was the recipient of three Purple Hearts. He was a life member and Past Commander of D.A.V. Providence, RI Chapter #1.
He was the dear brother of Alfred P. Papa of Cranston, Anna M. Cardarelli of North Providence, Grace J. Paul of Warwick, and the late Pauline Costa, Rose Czerkiewicz, Vera Reavey and Antonio and Albert Papa; and loving uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Tuesday at 9:00 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Ann's Church, Cranston St., Cranston at 10:00 a.m.
Burial with Military Honors will be in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston.
