Gloria A. (Raimondi) DiOrio, of Spring Street, in Johnston, died Saturday, January 3, 2009 at Our Lady of Fatima Hospital, North Providence. She died peacefully surrounded by her loving family members. Born January 4th, 1922, Gloria would have been 87 years old. She was the wife of the late Raymond J. DiOrio, Esquire. Born in Johnston, the daughter of the late Gerado and Antonetta (Iacovone) Raimondi, she was a lifelong resident of Johnston. Mrs. DiOrio was a Civil Servant for the U.S. Government, a Workers Compensation Administrator on the Quonset and Newport, RI Naval Bases for 52 years until retiring in 1995. She was the President of the Toastmistress' Club in the 1960's. She loved poetry and was recognized by receiving many awards and having some of her poems published in poetry books. All of her life she was truly "A Poet in Motion". Gloria is survived by her beloved daughter, Donna Maria DiOrio, also of Johnston; two sisters, Dorothy Raimondi of Bristol and Jo-Ann Lamontagne of Johnston; and many nieces and nephews who loved her dearly. She was the sister of the late Angelo M. Raimondi, Irene Dugas, Edith Cybulski and Dante Raimondi. Her funeral will be held Wednesday at 9 a.m. from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in Our Lady of Grace Church, George Waterman Road, Johnston at 10 a.m. Burial will be in the RI Veterans Cemetery, Exeter.
