69, of North Hollywood, California, died Wednesday, September 28, 2022, at her home in North Hollywood, California. She was the beloved wife and best friend of Karen Spangenberg. Born in Providence, she was the daughter of the late Nicholas and Elena (Ruzzano) D’Alessandro and sister to the late Anthony D’Alessandro, John D’Alessandro, and Claire Cataldo.
Gloria attended Mount Pleasant High School and received her Bachelor of Arts degree in Painting from Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in Providence.
After she moved to San Francisco she worked designing and building sets for live theater, followed by coordinating corporate multi-projector slide presentations and videos. In 1985 Gloria began working in the motion picture industry in film and television as a picture and sound editor on over 100 projects. She was nominated for an Emmy and won 2 Golden Reels for her work on “Letters from Iwo Jima” and “Pirates of the Caribbean: The Curse of the Black Pearl “. Other notable films she worked on include “Enemy of the State”, “The DaVinci Code”, “Dead Poet’s Society”, and “Indiana Jones and the Last Crusade”.
After Gloria retired, along with long-time friend and fellow Rhode Islander, Ed Brassard, she produced, directed and edited documentaries of local interest. ” Dan Butterworth’s Puppet Workshop” won the PEG Award for Best Production. The five part series entitled “Maple Sugar in Rhode Island” and “Stories of the Sea Captains’ Homes of Wickford, Rhode Island” were featured on Rhode Island PBS. Besides her wife, Gloria is survived by her beloved nephews Paul Cataldo (Rhonda), Joseph Cataldo (Cara), and Micheal Cataldo (Marie). She also leaves behind beloved grand nieces and nephews Nicholas, Michael, Brittany, Tiffaine, Natalie, Ryan, Aurelia, Robert and Domenic.
Visitation for family and friends will be held on Thursday, October 20th from 9 to 11 am at Nardolillo Funeral Home, 1278 Park Avenue, Cranston. Burial will take place in St. Ann Cemetery, Cranston. In lieu of flowers it was Gloria’s request that relatives and friends spent time with their loved ones, call them, check on them, spend that money on them.
