87, of Warwick, died Friday, June 11, 2010 at Bright View Commons, Wakefield. She was the wife of the late Joseph P. Casey. Gertrude was born in Pawtucket, the daughter of the late Alfred and Lucy (Gillespee) Hiccox. Gertrude is survived by her children, Kevin M. Casey and his wife Ellen of Macon, GA, Brian J. Casey and his wife Julie of Narragansett, Steven S. Casey and his wife Donava, Darren P. Casey and his wife Anna, all of Miami, FL. She was the much-loved grandmother of fifteen and the great-grandmother of eight. Gertrude was the mother of the late Mary S. Casey, grandmother of the late Michael Casey, and the sister of the late Alfred and Charles Hiccox. Gertrude was a generous and engaging woman who had so much love for so many things. She had a passion for travel, but she loved her native Rhode Island, frequently waxing poetic on the landscapes, seasons, and of course the food. Watching her eat lobster was like watching Michelangelo paint the Sistine Chapel. She doted on children and animals and often said that after she died she "wanted to come back as one of her dogs". Above all else, she loved her family and friends. She was strong, she was fabulous, and we will always remember her with love.
