GEORGIA E. (IMEL) O'ROURKE

89 of Cranston, died on May 30, 2011 peacefully at home. Her husband Joseph L. O'Rourke Jr. predeceased her in 1976.

A native of Greenup County Kentucky, she later moved to Dayton Ohio where she

was employed as an aircraft riveter during WW II. After meeting her husband in Dayton, she moved to Cranston in 1946.

She was the daughter of Jerry and Ludie Imel and sister of Clyde, Ted, Herman and

Fay Spetnagle all of whom predeceased her.

Believing that it was important to help people, she often had people to her home during the Holidays and on other occasions, for a meal or just to give people a place to visit. Her door was always open for a friend.

During the 1980's she joined the Cranston Historical Society and soon became the head of tours to the Sprague Mansion.

During her tenure, she was chairwoman of the 20th anniversary committee helping to raise funds and increase memberships and served on the Sprague Mansion board where she met new and lasting friends.

While raising her children she was an active in the P.T.A.and was involved in school activities. She believed very sincerely, that people's voices needed to be heard and encouraged her family to be aware of what was happening in government. Voting was a duty.

She is survived by five children Michael L. Williams of Missouri and his wife Rita, Joseph L. O'Rourke III of New Hampshire and his wife Michelle, Mark T. O'Rourke of Rhode Island, Susan E. O'Rourke of Nevada and her husband Jon and Brian M. O'Rourke of Florida and his wife Barbara.

In addition, she leaves behind twelve grandchildren and twenty-four great grandchildren as well as numerous nieces and nephews. A special thank you for the caretakers from St. Jude Homecare, Kelly, Sina and Renee from Home & Hospice Care of RI . Georgia will miss her little dog "Jackson."

In lieu of flowers the family requests that donations be made to Home and Hospice Care of Rhode Island located at 1085 North Main Street Providence R.I. 02904.

A celebration of her life and services will be held at a later date during the summer.
