George graduated from Cranston High School and U.S. Navy Service School and was an electronic technician at the former Quonset Point Naval Air Station in North Kingstown and the Naval Underwater Systems Center in Newport, retiring in1979. After retiring, he worked in the Physics Dept. at U.R.I until 1987.
He was a WW-II U.S. Navy veteran and in 1944 he received a Commendation: "The highly satisfactory manner in which you have carried out your regular duties since this island was occupied by our forces and the resourcefulness which you have displayed under most trying conditions, when we were being bombed almost continuously by the Japanese for a period in excess of two and a half months, have been noted by your Commanding Officer. It is a pleasure to commend you not only for the efforts you have exerted and the proficiency shown but for the spirit which prompted them. By copy of this letter, the Personnel Officer has been directed to make suitable notations of this commendation in your service record." George was a member of American Legion Auburn Post #20; Cranston Senior Center; the Pines of Delray West Men's Club; and was a past member of the Alpine Country Club and Galilee Beach Club. He enjoyed traveling and spending time at his vacation homes located in Narragansett and Delray Beach, FL.
He was the devoted father of Carol Lynn Howland and her husband Mark of Shrewsbury, MA and Lisa D. Mastors of Hollis, NH; and loving grandfather of Pete Mastors, Elizabeth Howland and Matthew Howland.
Funeral from the NARDOLILLO FUNERAL HOME & Crematory, 1278 Park Ave., Cranston on Friday at 11 a.m., followed by interment with military honors at St. Ann Cemetery in Cranston. VISITING HOURS are Thursday from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m.
